Fantail in house

I have just googled this. "Fantail in house" - " Some tribes believe a fantail in your house is a sign of death. Others believe it is a sign of good fortune".

Why did I google this? because a few hours ago I had a happy fantail in my living room - moving from one lightbulb to the next. Then when I got the broom - to direct it outside it flew out of its own accord.

The Ngati Porou in me believes that fantails are not a good sign. But then again as I am not really Ngati Porou maybe I can interpret is a sign of good fortune - a signal of good change.

The thing is I take these signs seriously even if I don't know know what they mean. A fantail doesn't just fly into your house unelss it has something to say. Furthermore, a fantail is not even a common sight on my property little own the prospect of flying into my house.

It has unsettled both Ali and me.

I guess the fact that the fantail was happy could allow interpretation to be on the side of good fortune.

i think you're probably taking the right approach in your interpretation. as in it could be the chance for a new beginning in one area of your life?

I'm looking forward to getting more information about this topic, don't worry about negative opinions.

The same thing happened to me last night. It was about 10.10pm and a fantail flew inside. It was rather disorientated and we struggled to direct it outside. Even when it was close to the door it couldn't quite get there. I am worried as i don't like things that are associated with bad omens. I am an expectant mother and mother to a 5 year old and would hate anything to happen to me or my family... It's freaked me out!

hey
something in the air I believe as the exact same thing happened to me on Friday. Maybe just a big day out for our feathered friends.
PS: So far all good and no bad news :)

Hi there! Iv'e had a wee fantail hangin out at my ranch slider door lately, It would come in if the door was open im sure! Not so sure if im very keen for it to come in after reading the superstitions though :-) Maybe they are just out and about at the moment, with winter coming they may just want to keep warm hehe!

Very cute wee birds can't mean such sad news surely!

I would love to know what their visit means. I had one trying to fly inside last week. It kept flying into the ranch slider, trying to get in. Then the next day I went downstairs to the laundry and there was one sitting in there, right by the washing machine... don't know how it got in! It flew around my head and then left. Then this morning one came in the ranch slider door and it took me a couple of minutes to get it outside again. It flew all around the house and flew in circles around my head... it was a cheeky wee thing. Thats why I came online to try and find out what it means... however, I haven't found any solid information on the meaning of a fantail visitation, other than it bringing a message of an event that you don't understand until it actually happens. Maybe they serve as a warning that something that will significantly affect you is on your horizon, whether it be tragic or glorious...

We've had a fantail coming into our home five times in the last couple of weeks now. It seems unafraid and seems to want to 'tell' us something, as it sings and flies from one ceiling lamp to the other. It seems to prefer our bedroom and it's droppings fell on my duvet the other day! I feel something really good is about to happen! I believe fantails are all about new beginnings, laughter and happiness!

i was living in a depressing unhappy environment full of arguments, i fell asleep on the couch one day & dreamt of my deceased grandfather, when i woke up a fantail flew into my house, sircled around then flew back out, naturally i worried as i had heard the death stories surrounded by fantails. nothing happened for a while & then not terribly long after, i suddenly up & moved from my toxic environment after another argument & now i am living in a better area & extremely happy. so i now see the fantail as a sign of good things to come, thankyou little fantail

Hi There - we had a fantail fly into our home yesterday - my husband was concerned and rang our son who lives in Australia to make sure all was well. This morning whilst having breakfast the little mite was back, knocking at our ranch slider. I understood fantails to be "messengers" of good or bad news - not soley bringers of "doom and gloom". However, our goldfish has just died! Not sure what to believe right now! Having read all your posts, we are now going to buy a Lotto ticket and hope our little friend was bringing good news and new beginnings rather than foreseeing the loss of our goldfish! I would like to believe we have had the good fortune of experiencing a visit from our little friends! I wish you all good fortune too!

A fantail flew in our house when I was 15 years old and the next day my brother passed away, two weeks later a fantail flew in my face and I fell down a small cliff hurting only my ankle... My Aunty had a miscarriage the next day. Our "good fortune bird" is the Tui and our " warning bird" is the Fantail. I think Fantails are both good and bad news it really just depends on you and your family and finding out which is which, but it's safe to say anyone in my family stay away from the beautiful birds.

I had a wee fantail trying very hard to get thru my front door. I had an experience 2 years ago, when my ex husband called me to ask what a fantail in the house meant - I said it is warning of death - and later that afternoon, his best mate died at the property. Very scary.

So today, the cute little messenger, was told sternly, and polietly, to go away.

I have also been told that fantails that hang around, outside of the house, are angels/spirits of passed loved ones.

I have had a fantail come into my lounge today, when I tried to direct it outside it flew into our bedroom and sat on the ceiling lamp. I was so pre-occupied on trying to get it outside safely I didnt realise what I had heard about fantails in the house. It is almost a year ago that a good friend passed away and he owned the house we bought. Also yesterday we found a new home for our much treasured 12 month old pup, which I am struggling with today... I am hoping that it means she is going to have a good life, we feel she is, they are lovely people.

Surprisingly she was quiet on the way there except for a couple of meows, quiet in the waiting room! However yesterday my stepmum also underwent a operation and a cancerous growth was removed.....

I've heard alot about fantails been messenger birds, aparantly if they fly in one entrance and out another it is a sign of death or bad news, if it flys in one entrance and out the same entrance it is new life in any sence wether its a pregnancy, birth or fresh start. A fantail flew into my door and out again a week later I found out I was pregnant unfortunantly 3 weeks later I miscaried im unsure if I was been told of my pregnancy or warned of the loss I would endure. I have a beautiful 15 month old daughter now and just these last few weeks i've noticed a fantail following me it flutters around my windows flys around the deck and swoops at me if I hang washing or stand outside. Unsure what news this lil guy has for me.

When my son was of 18 months old he, we were having a picnic & he tried walking away to the park... A single fantail flew down from a Kowhai tree & danced infront of him before he then returned back to me, he then tried walking to the park again & as I called to him the beautiful fantail flew down to his little level & danced in front of him again until he once again returned. Since then I have thought them to be little spirit birds that watch over us & some what cheecky. My second significant encounter was a visit at my work for 5mins this bird was trying to get in & sung to me. Unfortunatly this was a message of my uncle passing on this day & we found him a few days later... I am trying to find an explaination to this as Two fantails were in our tree today singing & chasing each other they swooped around my head outside & went in & out of our shed... Two little fantails sitting in the tree, singing their lil hearts out I just wonder what it means!!!

About an hour ago a fantail flew into the house & hovered around one of the kitchen light bulbs just long enough for me to see it before it hovered around the lounge light bulb(according to my partner, because I didn't want to look at it any longer)& flew outside & out of sight. Even though I am not a superstitious person I am still concerned about its presence. Only happy thoughts are in my head right now.

ive had 8 fantails visit me while im sitting in my garage in a space of one week! on two occasions 2 fantails, not sure if they are the same ones or different ones each time..they all definitely have something to tell me as they sit there perced on my clothes line chirping and looking at me..i just smile and say hello, they say their piece and then leave:)..this morningings two was different thou..one entered the garage as i was walking in so i stood there and put my hand out, it flew around me twice as if it was thinking whether to land on my hand then decided not to, perched on clothes line chirped then flew away..second one today flew in while me and my sister were sitting there, one almost came at us then screeched as if it got a fright seeing someone else sitting there with me, perced on clothes line then flew out...what does this mean for me?? i have no glue but will eventually find out sooner or later...fantails have been around me visiting me from time to time over the past few years..some would stay and chirp away others would fly straight in and straight out again..but never have i had this many visit me in one week!..ive definitely bonded with these gorgeous birds since, i know for whatever reason they have been around me is never bad, my life has changed for the better since seeing these birds around and i can only guess it means more good changes are to come about..i thought i was the only one here wondering what these little fantails meant but great to see i can share with others who too have had encounters with them...definitely keen to know why so many in one week thou...to be continued:)

My Father passed away on 6th December and his funeral was last week.Over the last couple of weeks we've had Fantails in our garden and although we're in a very built up subdivision they seem to like our trees. Just 10 minutes ago one flew in through the ranchslider into the dining room then did a U turn and flew out. It does seem a little bit ironic after what's happened over the last couple of weeks.

Today a fantail flew into the house and touched my back as I was putting my sons shoes on. My Aunty saw it and almost died on the spot (83 yrs old!). I am hoping for a good omen as there is lots of talk about fantails flying into houses but nothing on if it touches you.

Just reflecting on this post a few years later...... I posted the night after a fantail flew into my house in this thread - and worried for the bad omen.... A few weeks after this post, my little 18 year old sister suffered a massive stroke and was very very close to death. She had life saving brain surgery and was given a very slim chance of making it through the operation.. She survived..... A year later, my grandmother died and at my grandmothers funeral a black fantail was following me around.. it wouldnt go away. I was spooked out... 1 week later my father had a massive stroke almost 1 year to the day of my younger sister. It was also on my daughters 1st birthday.. He also had the same brain surgery but he died as a result. So fantails have been a very very bad omen for me!

I was pregnant in 2000 and living at my mums during my pregnancy i was very sick with hyporemisis, and while i would rest a fantail would come and sit above my head in a pot plant and sing to me, this eased me he was telling me that my daughter and I would be okay.Sure enough she was born healthy, mum still has fantails that visit regularly, as do i, last year a baby fantail started visiting us he is full grown now and comes in every morning first thing to sing to us, catch whatever flies are hanging round (they getting scarce its winter) we even put up a pole so he can hang out, he comes in quite a few times everyday dances ,flits, sings and shows off to whoever is there (hes not shy)He even says goodnight just before nightfall. This special bird is in no way a bad omen completely the opposite. EMBRACE AND ENJOY YOUR FANTAILS!!!!!

I have had a cheeky but friendly fantail visit regularly over the past month or so,
It flies in and sings, it does not drop droppings, the dogs don't seem flustered,
In the UK it is considered bad luck for a bird to enter the home .......
However I get the sense that this little critter is bringing a positive energy,
It doesn't scare me , it doesn't fluster me - it almost brings a sense of calm.
I have 2 butterflies that are also always with me , everyone knows my " butterflies "
Any idea how I should interpret this ?

We have had a fantail with us for 4 weeks now..in the past it has been a bad omen and brought death but I dont feel that this time roynd..its been inside 3 times and comes at the xact same time everyday trying to get in..bow its chirping at me trying to tell me something but I cant figure out what yet....no deaths in my family but it came inside when I had a client and then later i heard that her aunty gt into a car accident tht day and died a couple of days later? And the day it flew inside was at the same time Jerry Collins died in France? Maybe a coincidence but i dunno...slightly unnerving...and didnt win lotto this week so its not about money lol

I am part Maori and have heard my mother talk about Fantails ever since I was little (I am now 20)
She believed that it is a sign of death but can also mean fortune. Yesterday I was doing the dishes and a fantail flew into my house, did a round of the lounge then flew straight back out like it knew where it was going… a quick message? I freaked.. I am very suspersticious and It really freaked me out, I started worrying about my family. I rung my mum and she said just to be careful. I cleansed my house with white sage incase it was a bad omen. Today my dad rung me and told me and uncle had just died. Not really immediate family but still a death in our family. I don't know what to make of the whole situation. A coincidence? Or not?..

So I have a fantail that flies through my house and garage. The fanbird has flown in the garage more than once. It just flies in and out. It's also flown through the house, it flies up and down my lounge and when it lands on something, it starts screaming. This happens 2 days in a row like every month and then it disappears. I'm in my garage write now and it just flew in and out.

Curious.

I just wrote this note below and was about to push send, when I got a phone call.
"I had a fantail come into our home twice in the last two weeks now. Friday was the second time it flew in. It seemed unafraid and seemed to want to 'tell' me something, as it sang and flew from one ceiling lamp to the other and sometimes sitting on my cabinets. If flew in from the kitchen door, through to the dining room into the lounge. Although I also opened all windows wide it didn't want to go and stayed for 8 minutes constantly fluttering around and singing, to then fly away through one of the open windows. Nothing has happened in the meantime."
The phone call was from the sister of my best friend, asking if I had heard from her brother as she could not get hold of him for two days. A bit worried I decided to go and see him. I found him in the house dead. From his wrist watch it showed that he died Sunday evening at 6.42pm. He had laid there for 39 hours. I had so hoped that the belief of fantails as messengers of a coming death was superstitious.

about 2 months ago i had a faintail fly into my house i had heard it can mean 2 things impending death or a new beginning interestingly my daughter arrived home and said when she was visiting her friend a fantail came into their house very shortly after my daughter got a full time job as for myself i found my cat passed away on the footpath outside home a fortnight ago so for my daughter that little faintail was a bearer of a new beginning as for the wee faintail that entered my house maybe it was there as a bearer of loss not sure how long after fantails enter your house can a impending death happen

This past weekend I have had a fantail in and out of my kitchen. On both Saturday and Sunday for most of the day he was in and out the kitchen window, stopping to chat to me whilst perched on the pendant light shade, really loud chatter too ! He would then go out the ranchslider then back around to the kitchen . He also followed me upstairs to my sewing room where he sat and chatted to me from the edge of a picture frame .
This morning he was waiting for me on the outside of my kitchen window . I opened it and in he came .... chat chat then off again .
It was really comforting , like a friend coming to visit .

A fantail just visited me, very purposely. He was in the vine outisdoutside the front door chittering away as i was in the shed watching him. He flew into the house, and a minute later, back out to the vine. Then he flew into the house and stayed in the lounge and kitchen. I could here him calling from inside, so i went in and opened all the doors and ranch slider. It took him a while to figure out which way was out, and he flew around in circles, trying to fly upwards. He rested on a window sill, and the sparrows outside on the deck furniture waiting for dinner looked back, wondering why he was in there when they were out there.

If it’s an omen, a message from “the gods”, then i’m honored to be thought of highly enough to warrant the effort of telling me. A death happens before a new beginning, even if it’s just a change of perspective. A new beginning presaged with excited chittering is really quite hopeful. So either way i’m happy with whatever happens next.

We have had a fantail visit regularly for the last week or so. It visits in the morning and again in the evenings. It was playing around outside then it has started to get cheeky and comes into our shed and this evening it came in through our front door, flew around in our lounge and went back out the front door. I don't know if it is the same fantail or not, it seems to be because it seems to have the same chirpy sound. Both my partner and myself have been home when it visits. He see's it as a good omen, I am not sure yet, although we have had them visit many times in the past and nothing bad has happened.

This afternoon, 3 fantails were flying around, and playing on the vines beside my house. They never entered my house, but there has never been fantails around here before, 1 was big, 1 was medium and 1 was small. I like to think of their visit as one of change but in my family, fantails are a sign of death.

i go outside it still hanging around me ,almost everyday it seems to come and say hello it doesn bother me. I see them as lovely birds and like it when it flys around me. It seems to follow me around when im outside. I live among native bush so they must have a nest nearby. Ive heard about the maori superstitions and I appreciate and have full respect for them but in my case there doesn't seem to be any bad vibes.

I have had a piwakawaka visit almost every year since I moved into my whare. Except for the last 2 years.

Today I got a visit, the piwakaka had a play and a chat and followed me to hang out the washing.

My auntie told me it is your tupuna trying to tell you something, hopefully of change and new beginings. I have heard the superstitions of death coming, I used to believe that and sometimes I think that may actually the message tupuna are trying to tell me.

So I called my Nan. Who has covid in her whare but she is currently safe. I needed to let her know I am thinking of her, I love her and I hope she is safe, just in case. We had a korero for about an hour, caught up and talked about reconnecting with our Marae, maunga and whenua soon, when things calm down a bit.

New beginnings, positive change.

I have had them inside mean times, going in and out the same way is fine, just loved ones visiting, going out a different way is a passing, everytime one has gone out a different way someone i know passes,
one came in and out different way these are all at different times, my uncle was a week after, good friend was 4 days after, grandmother 2 days after, father inlaw 9 days after.
Everyone is different with beliefs,
